Check thermometer?: I would try a different thermometer. Fevers are common with lymphoma. Hypothermia can happen in very sick infants. Going out on a limb, problems with the hypothalamus (area of the brain) or thyroid could cause someone to have low body temperature. In theory, a lymphoma located in either of these areas could affect their function, but i would assume other symptoms as well.

Life is not exact: Life is not exact. A person at home can measure his temperature in whole numbers. Thermometers are not exact. Human bodies are not exact. So, if one is wondering what to tell the doctor, just use whole numbers. Also, every person is different, so "recurrent fevers" can vary from time to time in one person, and vary among different people. There is no exact number. A couple of doctors can evaluate.

every night i wake up 4-5 times a little sweaty but not drenched and in the afternoons i have a fever of 99.5. i have lost 5 pounds. lymphoma?!?!

See doctor: Unintended weight loss and fever do warrant an investigation. It is not feasible to give more meaningful advice in this forum. Please see your doctor.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

Pain: Infected lymph nodes are painful.  Lymphoma is not.  If your glands have swollen without a cold or sore throat, and don't hurt, and are over about 1 cm, go get them check right away.

Diagnosing lymphoma: First step would be to see your doctor for a better history. A complete blood count , and metabolic profile and physical exam to check for node, internal organ eg.  liver and spleen enlargement are initial steps towards finding a diagnosis.

There is no indication from anything you have mentioned that you should be worried about lymphoma. He may have a mild musculoskeletal injury, or something else. If you are still concerned, have him see his doctor.

Cytokines: Fever results from cytokines, which are chemicals produced by immune system cells in response to infection and several other conditions, including some cancers, auto-immune diseases, and others. In lymphoma, the abnormal cells themselves may produce cytokines in excess, causing fever.
