Blood and U/S tests.: First trimester screen for any pregnancy includes a sonographic examination to determine plurality, basic fetal anatomy, gestational sac location, fetal viability and gestational dates - as well as blood tests (hcg, papp-a, maternit21/harmony tests) to determine the risk for down syndrome, fetal growth restriction, preeclampsia (uterine artery dopplers), preterm birth (cervical length). Difficult to say: Heroin use in the first trimester will either cause a full miscarriage or have minimal effects at all.  This is essentially true of all toxic exposures in the first trimester that tend to kill the baby or not affect it at all.  Heroin use for the rest of the pregnancy will likely cause addiction in the baby, stunted growth and increase risk of infections such as hepatitis, hiv, syphilis.

Prenatal screening: First trimester screening is a prenatal screening test for Trisomy 21 and Trisomy 18.  It is done in the first 13 weeks of pregnancy and involves a blood test and an ultrasound.  The ultrasound measures the thickness of the skin at the back of the fetal neck.  The blood test measures certain hormones and proteins in the maternal blood.  
Maternal Fetal Medicine is study of high risk pregnancies.

: I wouldn't be concerned about this minimal exposure at that fetal age or any other stage of pregnancy. It is good to avoid meds when you can but a mother that can remain productive and healthy is also important. This is listed as a category c drug which just means they don't have enough data to say it's perfectly safe but existing data are not worrisome.

affect fetal development. You need to have
an assesment of your diet and vitamin
intake to ascertain if their is any deficit or
imbalance that can be corrected. This could
only help prevent any further fetal growth
abnormalities.
