Get an operation: A hernia repair is the only way to make this better.  This is done by a surgeon.  Although you could wait and see, the hernia definitely won't get any better, and will probably get worse.
Today we do hernias laparoscopically, which get you back to work faster and hurt much less.  You should look for a surgeon who repairs hernias this way.

See a doctor: Femoral hernias are uncommon, occur more often in women, and can be somewhat more difficult to identify. They would be felt below the inguinal ligament (groin crease region). You would need to have a physical examination by a doctor to tell if you have a hernia.

Unknown: I am not aware of ways to avoid a hernia. A femoral hernia is an uncommon for of groin or inguinal hernia. They are more common in females, and can sometimes be hard to diagnose. It is noted as a groin discomfort that extends into the upper thigh region.

Groin pain/swelling: Femoral hernias are not common, and more often seen in older females. There may be groin discomfort, pain, or low groin swelling along the groin crease. They can be a little harder to find or diagnose for some patients.

Rare,but troublesome: Femoral hernias are rare, accounting for ~5% of all hernias.  They are much more common in women than men, probably related to the shape of a woman's pelvis. They are prone to "incarceration": in fact, about half of all people who present with incarcerated femoral hernias were unaware of the hernia up till that point. Therefore, we recommend repairing all of these, assuming one is fit for surgery.

If you have: An incarcerated femoral hernia, you need to have surgical repair.  If it is acutely painful or tender, or if you have any nausea or vomiting, it is a true surgical emergency.  I am not aware of any exercise that can correct this type of hernia.  You should see a surgeon for definite opinion and plan of care.
