this is embarrassing but my feces sometimes smells like kitty litter. sometimes it smells like dog poop. is this something that i should be concerned ?

Stool odor: Stool smells are due to your gut flora and what you have eaten so the odor can change.  Nothing to worry about.

See a doctor: He should see his doctor. There are several reasons why a 30 year old could have blood in his stool. It cold be hemorrhoids, rectal tear, or inflammatory bowel disease to name a few. This should be evaluated and not let go.

Liver: In the old days before all our fancy tests, a patient's breath was often viewed as a clue about their health. Breath that smells like you describe can indicate liver stress. Consider using some liver-cleansing herbs as directed for a month and see if that helps. Good ones include milk thistle, artichoke, burdock root, and dandelion root. And check with a dentist, just in case it's gum disease, ok?

Mucus or ? on stool: Mucus discharge occurs in up to 50% of patients with irritable bowel syndrome, with or without pain. Mucus may also be produced in response to partial obstruction, chronic constipation, rectal dysfunction, infection, ; even from secretory villous tumors of the rectum. But you're not sure if the substance seen is pus or ? So at very least blood/stool studies ; further evaluation is warranted.

There are many: causes for loose, mucousy, smelly stools in a 3 year old.It could be from a cold,although you mentioned she doesn't have symptoms of a cold.It also could be from an infection,food intolerance or absorption issue.I would discuss this with her doctor; they may want to collect some stool samples to test,if it is continuing. Meanwhile, try to  have her eat more binding foods, such as bananas and rice.

Maybe not GI problem: Occasional incontinence of stool with fecal leakage is common, but loss of bowel control particularly without warning may signal a significant infection, inflammatory problem, maldigestive concern, or neurologic disorder.  Sometimes, particularly in youths, the condition is behavioral.  However, you describe an altered body odor similar to stool--have you checked with dermatology, neurology, etc.

Hmmm.: It is quite a jump from smelling like feces to wondering whether or not you have issues with being able to hold your feces.  Proctologists are quite well trained and i suspect that if he says you are normal you are at least not very abnormal and this is not likely the cause of your  problem.  Have you considered a different organ?  Maybe this is your nose / sinus or brain?
