Not a big deal: The amount of water is not terribly important - 12-16 oz should be fine.  Be sure you are fasting (not eating) for the required number of hours.

Good for you: I've got an idea. Most guys in their 30s totally neglect their health, but you're actually getting labs. Since you're smarter than most of your peers, why not go one farther? Get into some serious, intense physical fitness, and then on your next physician's appointment, see how much lower your glucose and cholesterol have gotten. Be glad for good health, and work hard to maintain it.

Different tests: Insulin & glucose are 2 different ways to measure diabetes. Insulin is produced by pancreas to keep sugars under control. We measure glucose to see how well sugars are controlled. Think of glucose as speedometer & Insulin as tachometer (hgba1c is avg trip speed - ask a car nut if this doesn't make sense). Glucose tolerance test requires drinking sugar whereas other 2 tests don't.

my daughters sugar levelswere 8.1 and she went for a fasting glucose test the following day but i was told it will be following day results in but 2nd day still waiting is this normal or is something wrong. she is a bedwetter and overweight with asthma.?

Hemoglobin A1C: If the test you are referring to is your daughter's hemoglobin a1c level, then your daughter is part of the growing epidemic of children with diabetes. Her asthma may well be due to her obesity. First, you need the results of more tests, because one single test could have an erroneous result. Either way, if your daughter is overweight, the sooner you and she get educated about food the better.

8-10 Hrs: I ask my patients to fast 8-10 hours, minimum.  Please take your meds on schedule (except dm meds - ask your dr), and get plenty of water, so your veins are full..

is 88 glucose really okay on a fasting glucose test ?  it's my husbands range . he is 5'6 230 lbs 43 years old .

OK for now: Your husband's glucose is normal (i assume it was a lab test out of a vein rather than a finger stick) but he's overweight and that makes him more likely to develop diabetes in the future (along with high BP and cholesterol) pacticularly if he has a positive family history. Diet and exercise could lower his risks.

Insulin resistance. : Glucose N in thin PCOS. Asks could I have insulin resistance. ANS: yes but not likely and detailed testing for IR rarely done in practice. Keep up the good work.

Other causes: Your evaluation is a look at the total system.  Why is there such a low reserve of glucose? Your physician  will look at other causes besides an insulinoma.
