hi doctor, does the vaginal suppository (prometrium 100mg) effects strep b results? does the vaginal suppository cause false negative for strep b? thank you, sweety?

: Prometrium is progesterone, a hormone and does not affect Strep B testing. An antibiotic, on the other hand, can cause a test to be falsely negative, depending on the antibiotic. Please discuss this with your ob/gyn if you are still concerned.

i tested positive/treated for strep 5x (rsat), little/no symptoms. last test was positive, culture was negative. what causes false positive results?

Latent infection?: Some people have recurrent MRSA (multiply-resistant strep aureus) infections that are treated successfully and recur. There is a possibility that they (or you) could be harboring strep in your nose. The sinuses don't have great blood flow, and so may potentially "hide" bacteria. This could explain your odd results. Put bactroban (mupirocin) up your nose daily as a preventive measure, and see what happens.

When you: are symptomatic it can be done. If there is bacteria it will show . Doing it to soon is not a concern and will not give false negative.

10yr ago had symps of syphilis, (palm rash,tonsillitis,burning mouth, scrotum bumps) was treated for strep + mono but was neg 4 both. did 2 rpr,fta,tppa,2eia now all neg, drank alot of alc between tests. possible all false neg and i have syph?

: If you had syphilis 10 years ago and it was not treated, your syphilis tests would be positive. Time and alcohol would not cause false negative results.

Not very likely.: Currently available urine pregnancy tests are accurate over 98% of the time when the HCG is over 25 (but 10 to 14 days after conception).  If the test is negative you are not pregnant or you are less than 10 days along.

No, not Realy: Some of your symptoms sound like pregnancy.  Perhaps the next test will be different.   You may become pregnant after the first test if you are sexually active.   See a physician for an examination to be sure.  Backache is not usual in early pregnancy but can be seen in urinary infections.

i have had quite a few symptoms of covid-19, i went to get a test done and it came back negative last week friday but the symptoms are still there, is it possible that i got a false negative?

Possible: If the sample was not collected properly, you could get a false negative. However, with a negative result alternatives like influenza need to be excluded. It would be prudent to see your doctor for an evaluation.

what causes a chlamydia test to be a false negative?

It's just random: Tests miss 5-10% of infections, more by urine, less by urethral or vaginal swab. Maybe other possibilities as well. Chlamydia clears on its own in a few weeks to months, so current testing is negative. Or s/he received an antibiotic for chlamydia (and didn't admit it) or for another infection, curing chlamydia or interfering with the test. Partner(s) of infected person need Rx, even w/ neg tests.

Doubtful: the test is very specific and can be coupled with a viral load.
