Rx + tips: There are many otc options including: micon 7, monistat, vagistat, (tioconazole) gynazole, femcare, gyne-lotrimin& mycelex. Oral Diflucan is also effective. Wear underwear that is cotton vice synthetic 2. Avoid wearing underpants when you go to bed at night. 3. Don’t wear tight fitting panties & pantyhose. 4. Use natural tampon/ feminine pads (avoid those which are scented). 5. Avoid douches.

See your doc: You should get tested to make sure it is yeast.  Havng a vaginal infection can cause discharge. Sometimes the treatment for BV can cause a yeast infection, because the antibiotics kills the bacteria in your vagina then the yeast over grows.

: There may be other causes for your symptoms than a "yeast infection".  See your GYN physician for an exam and perhaps a different remedy for yeast if found.

Treatment for yeast: If it’s your 1st possible yeast infection or you aren’t  sure if it’s yeast – see your dr. Some tx options include vaginal cream, ointment or suppository for sev. Days (7 to 14 days sometimes). Otc meds include Monistat (miconzole), vagistat-1 (tioconazole), femstat (buoconazole), Gyne-Lotrimin or mycelex( clotrimazole). Otc meds don’t work ? See your dr. S/he may order Diflucan (fluconazole) (oral antifungal).

Location?: For vaginal yeast infections, either topical antifungals are efficacious, or oral fluconazole.  Either of these treatments work, but the topicals work to relieve symptoms faster.  You can purchase topicals overthe counter at any pharmacy.  I have found that the creams work better in my patients than the suppositories.  Fluconazole must be prescribed by a physician. For oral, a prescription is nec.
