Dried eye fluid: Could be that you inadvertently sleep with your eyes slightly open, causing fluid to dry.  A few rubs and away it goes.  I assume no further symptoms throughout the day, such as eye discharge, loss of vision, redness in the eye, etc?  If those occur, then see a dr. To be evaluated for conjunctivitis.  Sounds like it only occurs in the morning and can go away.

If this does not help then a good exam with a refraction for spectacles will be necessary.

Not: I assume you are talking about voluntary convergence in which the eyes move centrally and the focus diminishes.  This gets tiring but is not harmful.
