Ripple effect: Since the ripple effect occurs with blinking, the cause is on the surface of the eye. It was correct to assess the tear film because that would have been the most common cause. The second most common cause is a thin film of mucus from allergy. Be sure to describe to your next eye MD when and how often this occurs, if you know of any allergies, if you have tried artificial tears as a treatment.

Blocked tear ducts?: I suspect that this is mainly a cosmetic issue which usually does not require treatment.  However you may also have a blocked tear duct which drains into the nose .

Artificial tears: Dry eyes can be bothersome and cause chronic discomfort. There are many therapy options: best to start naturally (warm compresses, diluted baby shampoo scrubs) &amp; move up a "ladder approach" to antibiotic cream, otc artificial tears. my eyes burn when i use any brand or type of eyedrops or saline solution or plain water. is my tear film too acid or alkaline?  how can i cure this pr

Dry eye: Saline solution and plain water will usually burn because they are not buffered for the eye. Artificial tears are almost always properly buffered. If they burn when you put them in, it is usually because the eye surface is very dry to begin with. I would recommend putting in the artificial tears on a regular basis. After a day or two the burning should stop. If not, you need an eye exam.

hi there, my left eye keeps weeping. worse in cold weather but now all day. i can feel it building up in my cornea and then the tears roll out. if i push on that area water or a cloudy film comes out. used tobrex and drops. ?

Worth a visit: To an ophthalmologist, can be a lacrimal gland (tear gland) problem on one side only, might not be an infection that would be helped by an antibiotic eye drops, good luck

Decreased blood flow: Fainting often can be the result of decreased blood flow to the brain.  As the carotid arteries enter the skull, the first branches from them are actually to the eyes.  Decreased blood flow to the eyes can result in a "greying out" of the vision.  It occurs because the retinal and optic nerve tissues are not getting enough oxygen.

Yes: Eyes are very often the target of allergies.Try an otc antihistamine like claritin (loratadine).
