See an opthamologist: See an eye doctor. A corneal abrasion usually causes reflex closing of the eye and it hurts so badly when the eye is open. Eye infections usually have swelling andor eye discharge. There are some other conditions too that may present like an infection but are not so see the eye doctor.

Wait it out: Most conjuctivitus will run there coarse without treatment. If it persists more than a week i would see an ophthalmologist.

Unlikely: Most municipal swimming pools have sufficient chlorine to minimize risk of ocular infection.  The possibility exists but is low - may be higher with contact lens use however.  Best to use a pair of goggles for extended swimming.  Also helps keep irritating chlorine out of the eye as well.

Return to eye doc: Simple conjunctivitis should be improving after four days of treatment.  Perhaps it is not simple?  Return to your ophthalmologist (or see one if you have not done so) for evaluation.
