i am currently using naphcon a eye drop which works wonder for my reddish eyes. i have some serious hay fever. but ketotifen eye drops doesn't work th?

Individuals vary.: I love Naphcon-A too!  Very, very inexpensive as well.  2nd generation antihistamines, like ketotifen may be less effective than some 1st generation antihistamines like Naphcon-A (2 drug combo.  Interestingly, if you took the oral equivalent of  pheniramine (1 of the drugs in it)  it can be very sedating, but this is not as much of a problem when used in the eyes.

why even on routine of allegra (fexofenadine) and flonase are itchy eyes harder to treat than any other hay fever symptom? do i need rx eye drops?

Conjunctivitis: Everyone responds to allergies differently, but persistent eye symptoms refactory to over-the-counter eyedrops might benefit from a prescription grade preparation. Make sure that you are practicing good avoidance measures, avoiding overuse of contacts when eyes are irritated, and washing eyes out with preservative-free drops.  If you have persistent symptoms see an Allergist for further workup.

woke up with a swollen,puffy eyelid this morning.it has happened 3 times in the last month.was itchy the previous night.eye itself doesnt look red or painful.i do have a history of allergies (hayfever etc).eyedrops usually helps,should i see a doc?

YES: You may have an infection or inflammation of the upper eelid.

Yes: Best to ask the chemist and they can recommend one or two things that will help control all your hay fever symptoms.

Avoid the cause: In most cases one can find out what they are reacting to, but sometimes they cannot avoid what it is.  If that happens, see someone about either allergy testing or try the over the counter allergy eye drops.  If they don't work see an ophthalmologist for a prescription drop with a longer action.

Prevention: If you know what you are allergic to, avoidance would be great.  If not a Netipot is a good start.  Consider an OTC antihistamine of not getting better... After that seek help from a doctor.

Expected: You want to see your doctor / eye doctor for prescription medications to control those symptoms, meanwhile use OTC antihistamines regularly, but read the labels carefully, better use the newer generation, less sedating ones as loratadine or fexofenadine, try not to rub your eyes, and wash your eyes with running water, good luck

Could be: Your symptoms do sound consistent with seasonal allergies, which are starting to ramp up this time of year.  I would recommend seeing your primary care physician, however, to be sure.

Allergies or cold: Could be either. Try an oral antihistamine in addition to intranasal steroid spray. If symptoms improve in about a week, probably a cold

Eye drops: Assuming that your symptoms are truly 'hay fever' - i.e., due to allergy, antihistamine eye drops will be the most helpful. You should see your primary care physician or allergist for this, though. Most otc eyedrops have a decongestant in them to "get the red out"  - these can cause irritation if used frequently; this is not a problem with prescription drops.
