Not normally: No, not normally. Contracture of the SCM would not really affect the jugular vein unless you contract it to the extent that increases the pressure in the venous system which causes venous distension in general. You may have a sift tissue growth superficial to the SCM that then becomes more prominent as the muscle contracts. Don't hesitate to be seen for it.

Q: i want to know if a node that is very superficial and is on my sternocleidomastoid and is right over my external jugular vein and 1 inch above my collarbone a supraclavicular node and if i should be worried about cancer please answer i am worried?

Usually not removed: Superficial vein thromboses are usually not removed. The body will reabsorbed this thrombosed vein in time. If it is something that you feel needs to be done for cosmetic reasons then you can consult a plastic surgeon about this.
