Foods provide both calories and important biochemical information to your body -- you can affect the proteins your genes make through the foods you  eat.  These in turn affect your metabolism, which eventually affects your weight.  Physical activity affects your metabolism too.  Balance is key!

No: I am not a fan of weight control medications.  Many of them are dangerous.  Patient's with liver disease should be especially cautious.  Nothing beats calorie control and increased activity.

No dessert!: With regard to weight control & healthy lifestyle it is better to avoid what is typically dessert, i.e., foods with loads of sugar, white flour, processed ingredients, cooked to death fruits. These foods have a high glycemic index, high calorie count and very little nutrition. If dessert is a must better options are fresh fruit, raw nuts, dark chocolate, plain yogurt, small amount of cheese.

Not a good idea: Not many can lose weight eating just dinner - however good your selection.  As your glycogen store gets depleted during the day, your body shifts to burn alternate fuel and process your intake differently.  It is best to have the more substantial meal during the day, > 9 hours before your bedtime.  Have a light meal at night to avoid going to bed with a full stomach and have snacks during the day.

Possibly: Some studies have shown patients decrease weight with certain amount of green tea ingestion.  This has not been approved by the fda for weight loss.
