Unlikely: This is usually the result of a vascular catastrophe or stroke in the occipital lobe of the brain.  If persistent, there is little likelihood of improvement.  There are occupational therapist s  who can help you cope with this but reversal is not possible.

Usually: posterior to the optic chiasm suggestive of a serious intracranial process.  If this is not just an academic question I would recommend rapid evaluation.

Unlikely: The loss of the left field (from each eye in your case) is the worst possible for driving as we drive in the usa on the right side of the road and most important hazards come from the left which is a blind spot for you.  Wa state will measure your vision which might b e fine, and will do a test of whether you can see to the left which you will fail.  Frankly you will be a hazard to all on the road.

Pituitary disease: Most losses in the bitemporal pattern - partial or complete - originate with tumors of the pituitary gland pressing on the optic nerve chiasm.  There are a few rare cases with this pattern from vascular malformations and tumors like meningioma.

Causes of bitemporal: Hemianopsia include pituitary lesions which can put pressure on the optic chiasm.  These lesions include adenomas, meningiomas, craniopharyngiomas, sarcoidosis, primitive neuroectodermal tumors (pnet), aneursymal enlargement of the anterior communicating artery, and sphenoid sinus destructive lesions with extension. Mostly no: If the hemianopia is on the left side, that is an absolute barrier to driving.  If the hemianopia is on the right, driving can be done although parking is a bit dicey and there is a risk of unforeseen things happening on that side.  Drving in these circumstances should be done very cautiously.

Proximity to optic: The pituitary gland sits immediately behind the optic chiasm which is where the optic nerves from each eye cross.  A pituitary tumor or other swelling there of can press on the optic chiasm and cause one to lose vision to each side.  Anuerysms of the anterior communicating artery can also do this.  Very cool question.  One would usually need an MRI of the brain to furhter investigate.

Nerve fiber pattern: Bitemporal  hemianopia is the classic later stage vision pattern in advancing pituitary tumor.  Generally the central fibers, which carry the best acuity are affected later in the condition.  A great deal of vision loss would have to be ignored by someone with this condition before the nerve fibers for the central acuity start to drop out.
