Calf atrophy: With one leg longer, your gait will not be perfectly symmetrical and one side could get a relative muscle hypertrophy.  Targeted calf exercises will help.  Rise on toes standing on that foot.   Discuss at your next checkup - please schedule one.

You dont: If you truly "exercise often" then you don't have disuse atrophy.  Disuse atrophy is defined by atrophy caused by lack of use, as the name implies.  As in a person whose arm is in a cast for 8 weeks might have disuse atrophy from not having used their arm for that time.  Again, if you truly exercise often, you don't have disuse atrophy, another cause should be sought.  Thank you for your question.

Hip Fracture Rehab: Some of the best exercises you can do after a hip fracture you can easily do in the comfort of your own home. Straight leg raises against gravity and resistance bands strengthen your quads. Hip abduction exercises are critical which you can do against gravity while laying down. You should be working with a Physical therapist during the postoperative period.

Yes: The general use or lose it phenomenon is quite true at any age. Regardless of injury or surgery, weakness is a process of nerve injury.  Nervous tissue takes a very long time to heal, however if the nerve does not get any signals to move a muscle from you then that muscle will atrophy.  That is difficult to overcome but not impossible.  Keep activating those muscles to preserve your strength!

Denervation Atrophy: It depends on the severity of the nerve compression but for all intents and purposes a nerve that is completely disconnected from its corresponding muscles that it controls, the muscle atrophy will take place immediately thereafter and will become noticeable grossly atrophied after a short while. If the muscle loses all innervation, the muscle will be irreversibly atrophied usually by 12 months
