No and no: Vitamin e is often recommended to improve sperm counts, but the proof isn't there: it usually doesn't  help. You will not become dependent on vitamin e for any reason, but there isn't any really good justification for taking ti on a regular basis either.

Unfortunate: The test result is unfortunate. Hopefully, the Dr did some other blood tests to check for a cause, before prescribing.  If these tests were done, the meds he prescribed are probably the right ones.

If your test is normal you don't need much else.

Hot Rocks!?: Many people believe that the varicocele increases the heat in the scrotum. The heat may be the cause of sperm damage. Not every varicocele causes a decrease in semen quality. Sperm motility is often most affected. Surgery or embolization can be helpful but often it is unclear if needed. Always check partner too. I like sperm function tests like acrosome reaction to help decide on treatment.

Masturbation: Masturbation is a normal, common part of the human experience. It may surprise but every man you know masturbates or has masturbated. Many even masturbate daily. This is normal. There are no negative health consequences to this sexual activity.

Sperm count: The lower the sperm count the less the chance that a sperm will fertilize the egg.  Causes of a low sperm count include physical abnormalities such as a varicocele which can be corrected, infections of the reproductive tract, hormonal problems, retrograde ejaculation and primary hypogonadism.  Treatments include surgery, hormones, surgical removal of sperm. He needs a workup.

Severe oligospermia: The test indicate you are not infertile, however, you have severe low sperm count. You can see any urologist to ensure you do not have a treatable condition.
If your significant other evaluation is normal and unable  to conceive, a trial of insemination with processed sperm is an option. Please not that assisted reproduction is an option if the insemination fail. Good luck.
