They do differ.: Hard surface sanitizing wipes reduce 99.99 % of bacteria in any where’s from 30 second to 5 minutes. Hard surface disinfecting wipes kill germs within 10 minute &amp; prevent new bacteria from forming. Disinfecting wipes annihilate germs more completely &amp; thus are preferred in health care settings.

What leaf?: Ethyl alcohol is the same alcohol that people drink. I am not sure where you can buy it, outside of buying grain alcohol from the liquor store or from a chemistry lab. Are you sure you aren't referring to isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol? Anyway, I am not at all sure as to the type of leaf for which you are referring? Nor is it clear what you mean by essential oil?  Sorry.

On the other hand, methanol or wood alcohol is not intended for human consumption and is actually considered a poison. Isopropyl alcohol is used for disinfection, not consumption.

Don't do it again: If it felt irritating, don't do it again. What was the reason anyway? If you're attempting to reduce risk of HIV or other STDs after sex, it's pointless:  alcohol has no known benefit in preventing STDs. In fact, the irritation it causes may slightly increase the risk of HIV if exposed.

Local irritation: Ouch. Sounds painful.
This is most consistent with a localized skin irritation or excessive drying out of tissue.  As long as no open skin, residual skin change, or symptoms, would not expect long term damage.
Would stay with more standard soaps to avoid future irritation.

COVID 19: Undiluted lIsopropyl or rubbing alcohol with at least 70 % alcohol  will kill coronavirus on surfaces in about 30 secs. Straight 3% hydrogen peroxide solution takes out rhinovirus – which is tougher to kill than coronavirus – in 6 to 8 minutes, and so should be at least as quick in disinfecting coronavirus.
