Essential tremor: I get that question a lot and honestly do not have a great option for you.  Sometimes magnesium can help, dosing with mg malate 400 mg per day if tolerated.  Some people have used herbs like lemon balm, passion flower, and lavender and there are advocates for a number of homeopathic remedies.  Deep brain stimulation is an excellent treatment if you are willing to consider.

ESSENTIAL TREMOR: It might be worth a visit to a major referal center with a large movement disorders clinic (columbia university in nyc for example) use of beta blockers, Mysoline (primidone) and Klonopin with careful titration might spare you the sedation. There are other approaches (sugery-magnetic stimualtion of the brain, biofeeedback, weighted utensils) that might help. Get a second and even third opinion.

Other drugs may help: Other medications that are useful in treatment of essential tremor are primidone, Gabapentin and memantine. Essential tremor is also sometimes treated by botulinus toxin injections and deep brain stimulation.

does sertraline(zoloft) can make essential tremor worse? would it improve back to normal if i stopped the medication? how long it will take to improve?

Discuss with doc: While the drug may have caused your tremor, sudden stoppage may be worse, discuss this with prescribing doc to determine if this is a cause and effect. Regardless, the tremor should stop,if it was caused by the drug within a few days.

my essential tremor has progressed to abnormal gait head arm and leg problems and pain in all areas despite all the medications they have put me on. 24 meds for various symptoms.  not working to increasing pain meds overwhelms my mind. help?

PT and pain doc: Unclear where your pain originates, as tremors and abnormal gait should not hurt. 
1. See a physical therapist to work on balance and assistive devices to prevent falls
2. See a pain doc to determine why you hurt and look at meds/treatments that will be better tolerated. 
3. See a neurologist for tremor treatments that could help all of your ills.   Good luck

Treatment not cure: The best and most effective medications for essential tremor reduce the tremor by 50% at best.  There is no medication that is 100% effective.  E.g. Propranolol may require very high doses to be effective but then produce unwanted side effects.  This is a constant battle  for patients! C’est difficile: Age of patient, onset pattern, swing distance,  bilaterality, medications, and other variables all need to be considered before determining the cause of your tremor. See a neurologist for full evaluation.

Essential Tremor: 23 F essential tremor age 9 would rather not take drugs. Would a gluten-free diet help? ANS: do an n of 1 trial. Decide how 2 assess tremor severity daily. Start diet/ or any other Rx. Cont till you think tremor better or not. If better go back to usual diet. Worse? Do diet again. Cont till u decide one is better. Then use that 1. U can use this 4 any Rx U want 2 try. Good luck. BBs work well also
