can i take equate daytime cold and flu and cetirizine together ?

Cold and flu meds: The product contains dextromethorphan (cough suppressant), acetaminophen (pain reliever) + phenylephrine ( weak decongestant). These compounds are safe to take with cetirizine, an antihistamine(AH). But AH are not valuable for respiratory infections, because they dry secretions+ lead to secondary or longer bacterial infections. Use AH for allergies or itchy skin, not ear or nose infections.

Antihistine: You felt that way because night time cold medications contain sedating antihistamines, not because the Amoxicillin was expired. But remember that for colds and flu, Amoxicillin is just a placebo, and should be avoided.

Hard to guess: Claritin (loratadine) is a once-a-day medication, and does wear off somewhat by night time. Regarding cold medications for example... if Nyquil, with its own antihistamine, is taken at night time, a person would be taking 2 antihistamines, which may or may not be a problem. Each person is different. His doctor can evaluate to see if there anything serious going on.

Equate spray: Both the Equate Cold and Flu and the Equate nasal spray contain phenylephrine which can act as a stimulant. Check with your pharmacist to learn whether it's ok to use both products simultaneously.

Depends: If your non-drowsy allergy relief contains a decongestant, it may keep you awake although it would provide some relief in your nasal congestion.  If it contains just an antihistamine, it would not help your cold but would not keep you awake either.  For short term use, an OTC nasal congestant spray may be more effective (not to be used for more than 5 days).

Nighttime cold &amp; flu: medicine should be enough, most of them already contain an antihistamine in the ingredients, so no need to add a non-drowsy allergy medicine. Read the labels carefully, rest, fluids, salt water gargles and saline nasal washes, if no improvement soon, especially ear pain, see your doctor, also stop smoking if you are, and avoid being around smokers, best wishes

Decongestants and antihistamines include Claritin-D, Zyrtec-D, Benadryl, etc...

FLU: If you have the Flu hydrate well w water, herbal teas, soup or juice. Drink sufficiently to have pale to light yellow urine. You can use pain relievers like Tylenol (acetaminophen) or NSAID’s. Rest A LOT! In some situations antiviral medications (Tamiflu, Relenza, Flumadine) may be prescribed within the first couple of days of symptoms to hasten healing or they can be used after flu exposure to prevent illness.
