Cold symptoms: Many of your symptoms may be from your cold.  What is a while?  If your symptoms are not resolving seeing your doctor will determine what is going on.

Taste buds: Any type of infection, surgery disease ...In the throat that can result in swelling can cause temporary loss of taste. Swelling can put prssure on the nerves that go to the taste buds making them unable to perform and affecting the way things taste, or maybe even no taste at all. In most instances the effects on the the taste buds after taking care of the initial problem, is temporary.

Taste and tonsils: generally speaking taste is the domain of the taste buds located on the posterior section of the tongue. Removal of tonsils and adenoids should not affect taste directly. However occasionally post operatively the taste buds are affected with symptoms of decreased sense of taste. It should resolve over the matter of weeks. If persistent I would follow up with your doctor.

See your PCP: Yes, anterior pillars and posterior pharyngeal wall contain taste buds. The best thing you can do is have your PCP to examine your palatoglossal tonsil pillars and make sure all is well. Take care.

Yes: MANY possibilities, but rather than guessing I would recommend that you see a Dentist, Oral Surgeon, Physician, or ENT, for examination, correct diagnosis, and treatment plan.

Swollen taste buds: Swollen taste buds can occur from something as simple as a mild burn from hot foods; spicy foods, sensitivity or allergic reaction to spices and other foods and liquids ingested to a number of medical conditions. See if you can pinpoint it yourself by eliminating and then retrying different foods. If it is a ongoing problem, you will have to see and oral surgeon, primary care physician or ent.

Possibly: Can be a few causes that create same effect- allergies, spicy or bitter foods, temperature of foods,beverages, etc.  Over-aggressiveness of brushing can irritate the taste buds too...even certain toothpastes may affect the taste buds.   Meds, supplements also

Certain it's New?: Some people have larger taste buds near the back of their tongue naturally and sometimes recent foods have irritated them - esp. acidic or spicy foods.  It could be normal and self-correct but it's best to have a dentist check if it's been more than a couple of months since you have been.
