Can talk with doctor: In such a situation, a parent can talk with the doctor by phone to advise the doctor what happened. Having more than one uncapped needle at a time is risky be cause there is a higher chance of a needle touching ANYTHING. That means a needle can accidentally pick up germs from anything it touches. The "nurse" may not realize there is increased risk, which is why the doctor will talk with the nurse.

: Without contact with bodily fluids, as in this scenario, there is no risk of HIV.  Glove and/or Bandaid would need to be soiled with body fluids to have any risk.

: The risk of long pauses is heart stoppage or arrhythmia (abnormal beats).  I am hoping you have sought out a cardiologist who can discover the cause of this.  Pacemakers can be life saving and some actually have a mechanism to electroshock the heart to restore rhythm if the beats are too infrequent.  Please have this fellow see a cardiologist and soon.

Leukemia: It's hard to tell as it takes different course in different patients. Some have more, some have less expectancy. It's easier to estimate when it's end stage, of course, but without further information from your end, it's very hard to tell.

Depends: Life expectancy of West Syndrome depends on the underlying cause.If there are other underlying brain disorders, then the prognosis is worse.  If the cause is "unknown", the prognosis is better  It is also better if it presents after age 4 months,  is treated right away and if the patient has good response to the treatment. About half live  20 yrs.
