Normal response: Some of the enzyme normally released by the pancreas into the intestine may spill into blood. It is not unique to lipase. Intestine alkaline phosphatase also increases in blood with a meal.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Can be pancreas infl: Amylase: enzyme made by pancreas and salivary glands.  Elevation can be seen with pancreatitis, mumps, vomiting/bulimia sometimes with other GI  (gallbladder, ulcer), gyn issues.
Lipase is a somewhat more specific pancreatic enzyme.  Mild elevations non specific, very high more specific marker of pancreatic inflammation.  Kidney disease screws up the values. Incr. In cystic fibrosis, celiac, .

How elevated?: It would help to know the number. Gall stones and alcohol are the common causes of elevated lipase.

Acute tests: A 1998 study found that 100% of patients with acute pancreatitis had an elevated lipase, and 95% had an elevated amylase directly upon admission to the hospital.  As their hospitalization continued, those values dropped off and so the tests would be less useful for diagnosis.

How elevated?: There are other causes of elevation or serum lipase, like intestinal obstruction. macrolipasemia, and renal failure. You should ask your doctors at the hospital for an explanation.

Chronic: Even in acute pancreatitis, these labs are unreliable, there is the possibility of lab error. Chronic pancreatitis is really more about scarring and injury to nearby structures rather than ongoing tissue damage, and amylase and lipase are usually normal.

Lipase elevations: Can come from different causes, two of which are pancreas and kidney problems.  Usually, very high lipase levels along with elevated amylase levels are seen in acute pancreatitis, whereas lipase elevations in kidney diseases are not that high.  Pancreatitis can show on ct scan, and kidney problems, can elevate BUN and creatinine levels.  Ask your dr about specific advice.

i've been drinking soda daily for 15 years, no problems but slightly elevated lipase. had eus & biopsy done now i get extremely bloated after i drink soda. complication from eus?

Not sure. : Word of advice. Soda is a potential carcinogen. Best if you cut back. I'm assuming you had an EUS due to abdominal pain....if this is true it could be the soda. Try flavored sparkling waters. I too used to be a daily soda drinker till I developed bad acid reflux. Drinking sparkling water has helped and still satisfies, takes a little to get used to but it's much healthier. Invest in your health.

Pancreatitis or VSG: A vertical sleeve gastrectomy removes about 75% of stomach, including the part that covers a lot of the pancreas.  Both surgery in this area and general anesthesia can cause elevations in lipase, which represent pancreatitis.  CANCER NEVER ELEVATES LIPASE (very rare cases).  Lipase must have been measured because of pain -- no other reason.  Could also be a leak or an ulcer.  Rec endoscopy &amp; CT.
