if you have reflux, should you elevate head? will this help?

Accepted Answer

Head, neck ,shoulder: Water runs downhill and so does stomach contents.  Elevating head, neck and shoulders 4"-6" with bricks, blocks of wood under the bed, or a long wedge pillow can help, without hurting your back. Avoid eating for 2-3h before bedtime, don't lie down for 2-3h after eating; avoid coffee, alcohol, peppermint, chamomile, spicy food, fatty foods, chocolate, acidiv foods.

Accepted Answer

Neither: Elevate feet, or head down if low blood pressure (hypotension); hypertension not likely to be affected. Lying down may have some modest effect.

had wisdom teeth out friday, now monday, swelling won't go down taking ibuprofen and tylenol, icing elevate head and rest but swelling gets worse.

Accepted Answer

Post Op Instructions: First and most importantly, STOP using ice. It's important to reduce swelling but only in the first 24 hours! After that it shouldn't be used as it limits the body's circulation in the are which is not helpful for healing.  Swelling may take a few days before it starts going down. What you should do is discuss this with the dentist who treated you. Call the office for advice.

do i need to sleep sitting up after rhinoplasty? will i need to sleep sitting up or with my head elevated after rhinoplasty, or can i sleep normally?

Accepted Answer

It : It helps to sleep with your head elevated about 30 degrees or so right after rhinoplasty. This mainly helps to keep the nasal swelling down. I usually recommend doing this for about a week or so, but if you can do it a little longer this will help even more with minimizing your swelling.

Either way, the swelling will go away, though. I tell my patients that if they really can't sleep well with their head elevated it's okay to lay more flat. I just let them know that they should expect a little more swelling than they would have otherwise.

hello dr's, while waking from my sleep tonight, in a position i don't usually sleep (on my back with my head elevated about 90 ) i noticed an unsual, internal bubbling feeling when exhaling slowly, almost like a low mucus. gone when awakened?

: We swallow secretions from sinus, nose, and mouth all the time during sleep and we are not aware of this activity. I assume some secretions were stuck with your unusual head position last night and you were aware of that feeling upon suddenly awaking when the reflex swallowing had occurred.

i like my head to be elevated when i sleep. can sleeping with too many pillows cause back problems?

Pillows &amp; back pain: Hello. It's pretty common for most people to use a pillow for head elevation while sleeping. It's also pretty common for pillows to be used in other areas to help alleviate or prevent but not cause pain in the back, hips, etc.

used cpap last night in lab, 1st time. had major issues breathing with mask unless my head was elevated. sleep tech seemed surprised. is this normal?

Accepted Answer

It can be: occasionally the use of CPAP can initially be difficult until you get use to it.  The pressure in the nose and respiratory tree can feel smothery.  With time and relaxation you should be able to tolerate the CPAP much better.

i have intense vertigo that started 4 feb and im slowly recovering and can do things on my own but until today i sleep on my back with my head elevated and still get dizzy when i move it to my right. did epley. is it normal to have it for this long?

: Dizziness is a difficult symptom for the patient to describe. Are you lightheaded? - feeling like you are going to lose consciousness? Is it vertigo a sense of movement? Vertigo can be from problems with the ear, brain,  or nervous system. Therefore, it is not possible to directly address your concern without knowing the cause or diagnosis. You would need to speak to your doctor

while i was laying down trying to sleep i made a fast head lift. now there is pain behind my ear lobe, behind my jaw line and under it. what wrong?

Accepted Answer

Torticollis: neck strain due to pillow or position may cause neck  torticollis or just muscle pain
Ibuprofen 600 mg will help, if you can take it without problem

is slight yellowing of extraction site and light yellow oozing normal 3 days after tooth extraction? most oozing occurs when i sleep ,head elevated.

Accepted Answer

Normal: Any pain or inflammation and fever or headache .. If there is no other symptoms like that . It is ok . It is just  a normal healing process .. Observe for any if the above symptoms  and get a checkup if you experience any of the above symptoms.
