Depends on the goal: An atkin's type diet can be very effective and is one of the fastest diets for weight loss.  Many also experience significant improvements in Insulin resistance with this type of diet.

With cholesterol parameters, many notice improvement, however cholesterol "hyperabsorbers" may experience the opposite.

This diet does have certain risks and should be monitored by a physician.

Yes: It is easy to follow a gluten-free diet if one buys natural foods and does his own cooking. It is harder if one wants to buy processed foods because most processed foods have many ingredients, some of which contain gluten. Buying specially-made gluten-free processed foods is more expensive, and sometimes hard to find in stores.

Cheap and easy: I am a fan of weight watchers but it does cost something per month.  Basically you should eat all types of foods, watch your portions (very important), eat more vegetables and fruits, stay away from fast food or packaged food, and most importantly, exercise.  Even going for a long walk is exercise.  Don't forget a multivitamin each day.  Good luck.

Avoid refined carbs: Helpful weight loss diets have natural foods that take time to chew but contain few calories. Examples include carrots, celery, and iceberg lettuce (little/no salad dressing). When shopping for fruits, buy small ones no bigger than a tennis ball, because fruits have sugar. Drinks without calories include water and green tea. A calorie is a calorie, but surely avoid sugar & simple starch calories.

No fad: Or crash diets are good.    To change your body takes a lot of work.   You must change to a healthy balanced diet. You need to cut calories (in a safe way) and you must exercise.  With out all of these steps you can not maintain a healthy weight.   Consult with your dr to arrange a visit with a nutritionist as well.

Fruit and veggies: Try to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains which are high in dietary fiber. Try to get a variety of foods, eat in moderation, use portion control to avoid overeating and eat in balance. Ideally 20% of the diet from protein, 60-65% from complex carbohydrates, and 15-20% of the diet from fat. Less than 10% from saturated fat, and try to use unsaturated fats.

Not: Very good marketing program, they made so much money they bought a lab at ucla, but the patients i know who have taken it have not gotten results and complain about the cost. Weight watchers or myfitnesspal smart phone app are the most consistent that i've seen.
