Neuro-cutaneous: Eczema is an inflammatory disease and as such the superficial nerves associated with affected eczema skin areas are stimulated causing the sensations of burning and/or itch.

Can't say for sure: The most common reason for a localized outbreak on the skin is a contact reaction to some trigger agent. This could be liquid/solid/metal/plant/etc. If it's raw, sometimes a mild OTC steroid cream will help.A localized reaction is rarely the cause or part of another illness. That is likely something else.

Find the cause: You need to find what triggers the eczema and eliminate it to stop the itching, you can also take an antihistamines to help with the itching such as Cetirizine or fexofenadine. See an allergist to help you find the cause.

Allergy: Eczema is a type of skin allergy: a breakout after exposure to sunlight may indiciate a photosensitive reaction- I strongly suggest an allergic and dermatolic consultation. Additionally, if you applied a sun blocker, you may be allergic to the chemicals.

my 6 month old baby has eczema, he scratches real bad. what can i do to stop or decrease the itches?

Hydration: Soak in water, use less soap, barely dry and slather in petrolatum base product on a daily basis.  There may be some help with presctiption medicaitons.  Keep gloves or mittens on the avoid too much scratching.  Humidify the room carefully to increase the ambiet moisture in the air.  Topical otc anti-itch creams may help.  If worse, see your pcp, dermatologist or other health care provider.

Likely fungal : Young males with itching near the genitals is often a fungal infection ("jock itch"). You can try an over the counter medication. Eczema is also possible if you have a history of eczema.

Need steroid: Go in, u need a high potency steroid, like clobetasol cream, perhaps with an antifungal cream.  God luck, try Hydrocortisone mixed w/ lotrimin (clotrimazole) in the meantime.
