are "good fats" like fish oil, avocado, nuts, etc., a problem after gall bladder surgery? or is it just things like deep fried and greasy foods?

Most foods: After gallbladder surgery one should be able to gradually return to eating all normal foods, including all fatty foods. Some do have chronic fatty food intolerance with gas or diarrhea, and it would not matter where the fat came from, only the amount of fat eaten at a time.

Possibly: choosing foods with low fat content and low grease may help you go longer periods without a gallbladder attack but it is not a sure bet. if you have had several attacks of abdominal pain and the appropriate workout for a gallbladder, you may want to see a surgeon to have your gallbladder removed to avoid future attacks and possible complications.

i am having trouble eating, gaseous, after 8 days from my gall bladder removed, is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Yes: It can be normal.  Your body may be adjusting to the lack of the gallbladder.  It should resolve as your body adjust.  Limit your fat intake.  If this continues discuss with your surgeon at your follow up visit.

several possible: Causes.   Abdominal pain in the right side after meals could be caused by indigestion, gastritis, ulcers, liver diseases, inflammation of the pancreas, intestinal or colonic pathology, some cancers and several other less common problems.  If the pain is severe, very frequent or both you need medical attention to identify the cause and formulate a treatment plan.

i had my gall bladder removed and then had diverticulitis. i have had diarrhea since the removal was told to change diet. what should i be eating?

Diet: Eat a low fat diet and start probiotics. Diarrhea is common after gall bladder removal but the diverticulitis has disturbed your bacterial flora.  You'll get better soon.

Consult: with a GI specialist, because you might benefit from meds that bind bile acids.

Loose stools: Loose stools can be normal after gallbladder surgery . If you we're on antibiotics  and if the diarrhea persists then worth seeing your doctor and having your stool tested.

ever since i had my gall bladder removed, immediately after eating, i get a horrible bout of diarrhea. are there any remedies for this?

Usually stops: This occurs in about 5% of patients after cholecystectomy and resolves in more than 90% within 4 to 6 weeks. Can try a low fat diet for now. If it persists your doctor can start you on a bile salt binder named questran (cholestyramine). Discuss with your surgeon at follow up.

See  a doctor: Ms. Richm83 - i'd recommend visiting your doctor. 

There are a few things that can be attributed to this. To be able to determine the true cause, a through discussion with you as well as an ultrasound or possible egd may have to be done.

I don't like saying on these forums the differential diagnosis, since patients tend to perseverate on what we say. I'd suggest you speak with your doc.

9 weeks after gall bladder surgery and still no appetite, eating little.  is this normal?  have resumed normal activities but am weak, losing weight.  marinol no help.  next steps?

Not typical: if gall bladder removed uneventfully and no stones left behind in the bile ducts or leak of bile after surgery, you  should be improving. Follow up with your surgeon. Other problems can coincide with or cause  gallbladder disease. One uncommon problem that can cause gallbladder problems as well as difficulty eating is hardening of the arteries to the gut and could be considered given  your age.
