Need more fiber?: Fiber, of both water soluble and water insoluble variety, provides health benefits.  Fiber accelerates how quickly food transits through the gut.  Fiber adds bulk to stool and improves bowel regularity.  Fiber can be used as an adjunct to weight loss by filling you up without excess calories, and in so doing restricting fat intake.

Some relate an overactivity of this reflex to irritable bowel syndrome.

: I'm quite sure you have defecated within a week. Constipation is defined as going without a BM for 3 days. Stools become hard and very difficult to pass after 3 or4 days. You should consult your physician or a gastroenterologist urgently to look into your constipation problem. A recent onset can be caused by colon cancer.

It depends on the: type of food eaten.  To increase the stool quantity, you need foods that when ingested will increase the bulk.  Most of the time, vegetables and things with cellulose would fit the bill.  Other easily digestible things such as starch or dairy do not give as much volume to the stool.  Be sure to drink a lot of liquids (e.g. water) to increase the water content of stool and therefore ease its way.

Intestine: The intestinal lining is terrific at treating  food and separating what is to be absorbed from what remains in the intestine to be passed as stool.  This is supplemented a little by the liver which adds things in the bile to the stool output.  Fat is usually absorbed and will be stored if you ingest more than your body can metabolize.
