Side effects: sounds likely to be side effects from vaccination. Drink fluids, Tylenol (acetaminophen) as needed for pain- this can go on for 2-3 days. If persisting- see your physician.

No, : No, ear ache is not a symptom typically associated with dtap injection or flu shot.  If her ear is hurting she should be checked for ear infection.  If she gets fever, rash, vomiting, or is not acting normally then she would need to be seen as an emergency.

If you are normal: People with normal pain fibers in their skin will notice the discomfort of a flu shot or ear piercing. Neither are much more than a mosquito bite, & few will give up going outside just because a few bugs might bite them.

No flu shot if.....: Current 2014 CDC contraindications to the flu shot include:  previous allergic reaction to flu vaccine, infants under 6 months of age.  People with egg allergies MAY be candidates for flu vaccination.  Precaution is advised for those with history of Guillain–Barré Syndrome within 6 weeks of a previous flu vaccine, and those with current moderate to severe illnesses.
