Could be: If this is an ongoing or recurrent problem then allergy is possible.  If it's quite new then infection is more likely especially at this time of year.  Your doctor would take factors like duration, family history, exposures, physical findings and more into account to make a diagnosis.

i have bitter  sour taste in back of throat more noticeable when swallowing and one side of my throat is hard to swallow and looks infected. this is also accompanied with a dry mouth and lots of mucus what could this be and how do i get rid of sour ?

Dr. can check throat: New throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies, irritants, or stomach acid reflux. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat).

can post nasal drip cause dry mouth? my mouth has been pretty dry for over 24 hours, been clearing thick mucous from throat. drinking plenty of water

Possibly: If the post-nasal drips are very salty, then you may end up with a sensation of dry throat like after swallowing a mouthful of seawater.  On the other hand, your dry mouth may also be from nasal congestion leading to mouth breathing.   You need to get checked out for possible sinus infection as well if the problem persists for more than 10 days or gets worse in the interim.

Covid ?: Symptoms as described in today's pandemic require Covid testing and quarantine for (currently) 10 days, even if test is negative.  If symptoms worsen, see your primary care physician for possible streptococcal infection and treatment, but quarantine is still advised since Covid may not test positive even if responsible for symptoms described.

Sinus or Reflux?: Thick mucus in the throat is due to irritation to the mucosa. Generally this means either 1)irritation due to postnasal drip from allergies or chronic sinus infection, or 2)irritation from acid reflux (laryngopharyngeal, "silent" reflux). The former is treated with a nasal steroid spray and saline sinus rinses. The latter with acid suppressing meds. Your doctor can help pin down a specific cause.

Dental care: See a dentist and get your bad teeth fixed.  Antibiotics alone will not fix your teeth  and they will get worse until you have dental care.  Exits are not as harmless as they seem.  You stopped smoking,  you should stop cigs also.  This will help you be healthier.
 See a dentist ASAP and get started with your treatment.  Your mouth will feel better.

Asthma: First stop smoking, this is not helping your asthma. A number of drug companies have patient assistance programs, you can look up your medication online, with a .Com after its name and see if the company offers such a program you can sign up for. Your doctor can also help you by contacting your insurance company to plead your case.

Run-of-the-Mill: Sounds like you have what i just got over. No biggie. You need more fluids and brush your teeth and tongue twice a day. You may develop other symptoms too, like a cough and headache but it should all blow over in a week or so. Over the counter cold and cough meds should help. If getting progressively worse, however, then you may want to see a doctor, especially if a high fever develops.
