Accutane: Is a very common cause of dry eyes, mouth and skin.  Often, patients who use this medication need to use lubricating drops to help their symptoms.  In addition, use of Accutane sometimes causes problems wearing contact lenses.  Discuss your options with your eye physician.

Usually short term: Accutane commonly causes redness and irritation which mostly goes away after discontinuation of the product.  Some have subclinical dryness which is pushed over into chronic dryness after the use of Accutane but this is very uncommon.  If you are having this symptoms discuss with the dermatologist who prescribed the agent and you might need a referral to an ophthalmologist.

Oil glands: Accurate does affect the oil producing glands in the eyelids. This oil makes up the superficial layer of the tear film. With a lack of oil in the tear film the eye become dry, with symptoms of burning. The treatment is initially eye drops like systane balance or refresh advanced.

See doctor: Rai can have many side effects including dry eyes and tear duct obstruction. You should see your eye doctor to evaluate your dry eyes. There are no reports of Accutane worsening the side effects of rai. You can use Accutane under the guidance of your dermatologist. Good luck!

Speak to your dr 1st: You are also taking doxycycline, cytomel, (liothyronine) levothyroxine, and before you add any more, do discuss this with your doctor, and eye specialist. So, you are all on board as to what is best to do. You are taking restasis, and Doxycycline that helps with dry eyes, but there are other side effects, and drug interactions with Accutane that  you must go over before adding anything else to your regimen.

Dermatologist helps: One's dermatologist can examine the old scars to see what can be done. Some techniques include chemical peels to smooth out tiny defects, dermabrasion to sand the skin to become more even, and injecting fillers into some spots. Different dermatologists may use different methods, so it is fine to get opinions from  two dermatologists.

Accutane: Can cause a change in the  oil substance secreted by the meibomian gland, these glands produce oil to help with the tear film of the eye. Treatment is hot compresses to the lids with massage of the lids. Do as many times as possible during the day for10 minutes.

i was on accutane 3 months ago and want to get lasik.  my eyes feel fine, but should i get punctal plugs to reduce the risk of dryness?

Probably not: I would discus this with your eye surgeon but if it has been 3 months or more since you are off the Accutane and your eyes feel otherwise fine, probably not needed.
