can drinking water actually cause excess phlegm rather than thin mucus? seems to be happening to me.

Can get more of both: If one has a respiratory infection in the nose, sinuses, throat, or the lungs, the damaged cells lining the inside of those areas will ooze some mucus, which is clear but can have some color. If lots of white blood cells, plus dead/dying germs and respiratory lining cells, get mixed in with mucus, one has phlegm. If one drinks adequate water, both phlegm & mucus should get more and looser.

NO: If you constantly cough when you drink water you need to check your swallowing.

: Make sure you are not dehydrated and do not work or sleep in a very dry environment. If the phlgm persists please see a ENT  or your MD for the cause.

No: There should never be blood in the semen. If so, there is something wrong, regardless of hydration status.  It could be infection, inflammation, or other things like cancer.

Many possibilities: Causes of extreme thirst include recently eating highly spiced or salty foods; extreme dehydration from sweating, etc; bleeding enough to significantly decrease blood volume; diabetes and diabetes insipidus; certain medications; severe infections; heart, liver, or kidney failure; and psychogenic polydipsia.   See your family physician for a checkup, preferably today.

Vomiting or regurg?: Big difference--if regurgitating foods as you describe (that promote gastroesophageal reflux), then you probably are describing gerd &amp; diet modification (&amp; acid reducer) is in order. If you are really vomiting as often as your question implies, then you have a bigger problem that warrants medical evaluation (checking for ulcers, gallbladder disease, pancreatitis, gastroparesis, obstruction, etc.).

Loss of efficiency: In swallowing mechanism. It probably needs endoscopy.

Accepted Answer

Water before bed: Drinking water before bed shouldn't cause gas.  But it can cause reflux during the night which can be uncomfortable - gravity brings the water mixed w/ stomach acid up into the throat.  Best way to test this out is to stop drinking fluids 2-3 hours before bed and see if it improves.  Good luck!

Hiatal hernia : If you have a large hiatal hernia, reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus easily occurs.  Symptoms may persist even with antacids, at which time evaluation for nissen fundoplication should be considered.

what might be the cause of  sleepless night, not having anything to eat through out the day - for the past 4 days just drinking water, uncontrollable emotions - constantly feeling like crying , mood level changes in seconds. how can one prevent that?
