i take clonazepam 1mg-2mg. sometimes it work sometimes not.i do sleep with cpap.if i drink a glass of wine with it , i will sleep all night.is this ok?

Anti anxiety meds: It would be best to talk to your doctor as antianxiety medication like this may become habit forming and difficult to wean off. They also have the potential to make your sleep apnea worse.

Valium: Pill Alcohol: You should consider one dose of valium equal to a full bottle of wine. Benzodiazepines are just a pill form of ehanol, the alcohol in wine.  So, that is one large dose of alcohol in one day, don't you think? They should not be taken together.

have a glass of wine in evening; lasts me all night...  bedtime take 3 mg melatonin, .50 xanax.  can sleep only 4 hrs. wine the problem?

ANS: how big is the glass? wine should help sleeping in most. Discuss with Dr. Ask about OSA. If I know BMI could answer better.  Always send as much info as you can fit in space.

Dr-patient relation: One's own dr may not recommend this to the next patient. T has to do with the doctor-patient relationship &  the trust that goes along with it. Generally, not a good idea to mix benzodiazepines (e.g. Ativan (lorazepam) & alcohol) & Ativan (lorazepam) is not always the best idea. At the end of all this, the answer lies withing the doctor-patient relationship.

is it okay to drink a glass of wine if i have gall stones/gall bladder problems?

Maybe: Obviously avoid alcohol if it causes any pain or discomfort. Best treatment for gall stones is have a laparscopic cholecystectomy (removal of gall bladder) which in good medical centers is performed as a day surgery procedure.  Red wine can increase gall bladder symptoms. Alcohol/wine can irritate a sensetive bladder, specially ic patients. Why consume it if results are unpleasant?

will it be okay if i take ciprofloxacin hcl in the morning and drink a glass of wine at night?

Accepted Answer

Not dangerous: However we do not generally recommend alcohol with antibiotics. There should be a warning on the prescription bottle if there are any know issues. We do know that some antibiotics are weakened by alcohol but this is not tested in every case. If in doubt stay away from alcohol for the duration of the prescription.

after drinking one glass of wine almost 3 hours ago, when can i take my klonopin (clonazepam)?

Depends on amount: Typically one should not mix alcohol and meds like klonopin, (clonazepam)  both are central nervous system depressants and can combine to create an even greater degree of sedation and may slow your breathing. If a single glass of wine and a small dose of klonopin, (clonazepam) it is prob ok to take it within several hours of the wine. Klonopin (clonazepam) will be in your body for up to 1.5 days, but much of the effect passes in hours.

i take toporol xl 25 and 1/2 water pill and would like to drink a glass of wine occassionally is this okay?

Yes: An occasional glass of wine is not contraindicated

is it ok to take a 1mg ativan & then an hour late have a glass of wine? my mom (56) took an ativan but then i saw her drinking some wine an hour later & i started freaking out on her about how dangerous that is but she doesnt seem to think so?

: You both should be OK, but it is not recommended to drink alcohol and consume ativan.

can i take a sleeping tablet while i've had a glass of wine?

Accepted Answer

Not advised: I would not recommend every drinking alcohol and taking sedating sleep medication. Together alcohol and sedative/hypnotics can magnify their effects and lead to respiratory depression, which essentially means you can go to sleep and not wake up. There have been unintentional deaths as a result. This would apply to alcohol and pain meds and benzodiazepines.
