Alpha blocker: Doxazosin is a medication in the class of non-specific Alpha blockers.  It is often used to lower blood pressure, or to improve bladder emptying.  Doxazosin has been around for a very long time and is typically well tolerated.  The dose needs to be slowly escallated as they can cause lightheaded and dizziness (especially when changing position - lying to sitting to standing).

BP: 75/51 is a low blood pressure and if you've transcribed it correctly then adding or increasing a medication which can further lower blood pressure would be inappropriate.

Yes, it is an option: Cardura (doxazosin) or another alpha blocker type drug is an option when the other classes of drugs mentioned are not well tolerated. Alpha blockers can cause dizziness so they are best taken at night to minimize this effect. The dose needs to be increased slowly. Make sure you are exercising and minimizing salt, alcohol and caffeine as well.

Hypertension: Switching from Cardura (doxazosin) immediate-release (ir) to Cardura (doxazosin) xl, therapy   initiated with the lowest dose (4 mg once daily). Prior to starting therapy with Cardura (doxazosin) xl, the final evening dose of Cardura (doxazosin) should not be taken. Pde-5 inhibitor therapy should be initiated at lowest dose in patients taking Cardura (doxazosin) xl.
