Many possibilities: There are many possibilities, but without examining your child, it's impossible to say.  If there was a recent injury, it could be blood under the nail.  You should seek immediate medical attention if he develops redness, swelling, pain, increased warmth at the site or fever, as these are signs of infection.

Yes.: Sure sounds like it, but it must be mild because usually one has to relieve the pressure but perforating the nail. if it's only a small area of bruising and you did have recent trauma and as long as it's not painful you don't ned to do anything other than wait for it to grow out/heal. If it changes in any way, and you think there is not another explanation (e.g. trauma) let your doc have a look.

See specialist: Any area of discoloration that you are concerned about needs to be looked at in person or virtually. A biopsy is typically recommended, especially if there is a change in shape, color, texture or size.

i have a yellow dot in the middle of my thumb nail . what could that be ?

Yellow: Yellow does not sound alarming, but if there is any hint of brown pigment, I would want you to have it looked at to see if it is something that should  be removed.

i have a painful red swelling on my index finger and next to the nail there is a red dot, the swelling is increasing daily. i've had it for 4 days now and the pain is getting worse by the day. when my finger is facing down its worse. please help?

See Dr- infection?: It sounds like you probably have an infection either in the soft tissues of your finger or along the base of the nail, either of which needs a Dr evaluation &amp; possibly antibiotics or drainage 
Warm compresses or soaks plus elevating the finger can help but definitely see Dr

Old blood: this is old clotted blood from the injury- if it is just a dot, it will resolve over 4-8 weeks.

Best to Check.: Whenever small black dots start appearing, it is best to have them looked at by an experienced physician. Often times, they are nothing more than blood trapped under the skin, but to remove all doubt, check it out.

Toe nail: If you do not have any other symptoms and no more spots appear then it’s generally not a reason to worry about. But if you are concerned then please consult a physician and show the dots to make a diagnosis.
