Not Really: Adult stem cells are only good for that individual only.  Stem cells from other people can cause an immune response to reject the cells and can cause major harm to the body.

Under gen anesthesia: Donating bone marrow for transplantation entails a procedure called bone marrow harvesting. The donor is placed under general anesthesia and turned over to lie on his/her belly to expose the hip bones on the back. Multiple aspirations of bone marrow are collected (average about 1 liter) at adjacent sites on the hip bone on both sides until a particular number of cells are reached.

Not aware of any: There are both rules regarding patient confidentiality at both the federal and state level. State by state rules vary but are centered in limiting access to personal medical information. For such a registry to exist the donor or donors would first have to agree to share their identifying information.I don't see that happening in the present environment.

Not recommended: Red Cross and many facilities in US will not accept products from pay-for-donate locations. This is due to the concern that a potential donor might not be totally honest in the history questions if seeking $$ and this could contaminate the blood supply. Volunteer donors have no motivation to not provide direct answers.

Politically charged: China has a reputation for executing prisoners on schedule to harvest their organs.  I don't think this qualifies as "donation".  There probably is a smaller, more traditional donation market there.  Japan, which does transplants on their people, have a tradition of not donating organs, so they are a ready market for organs of chinese origin.

Yes: Both male and female fertility can be affected with either temporary or permanent infertility resulting.  Many patients undergoing transplant are already infertile due to the treatment already given for their cancers.  There are strategies to preserve sperm or eggs before transplant if desired.

Myeloma : There are many things that go into predicting life expectancy of somebody with myeloma who has an autologous stem cell transplant.  The rough estimate for somebody getting a transplant in first remission is about 6-7 years now.  However, this is something your oncologist or transplant doctor can talk to you about with more specific information.

Donor matching.: This involves two people: the (healthy) donor and the (patient) recipient. Donors must have a tissue (hla) type that matches the recipient. Matching is performed on three or more loci of the hla gene, and a perfect match at these loci is preferred.  Even with this, immunosuppression is often needed due to graft vs host disease.
