Bone mass is: fixed after maturation at it's adult size and is not affected during weight loss.  Your friend's head only appears larger in relation to his/her girth which is now apparently one half what you were used to seeing.  In a short time you will see that it appears normal.  He or she should be congtatulated,

Hormones?: It sounds cliche but in your wife her hormones definitely seem out of kilter.  Of course, what's causing that is another question.  She really could use a good physical examination followed by appropriate lab and/or diagnostic testing.

Skin on nose: Not really. You may lose the fat that is under your skin, but there isn't much on your nose anyway.  So i wouldn't worry about it.

Seborrhea: Scaling and redness around the nose , and other areas of the face can be seborrheic dermatitis. A common treatment is low dose topical corticosteroids such as 0.5-1% cortizone (hydrocortisone) cream.

Needs evaluation: Your little one needs an evaluation.  Poor weight gain in a 6 month old is concerning.  Prolonged runny nose is also an issue and may or may not be related to the poor weight gain.  Likely some labs will need to be done as well as a thorough examination.

Unfortunately, : Unfortunately, your nose is unlikely to return to its pre-injury position on its own. In the first 10 days or so it is possible for a surgeon to perform what is called a closed reduction. We don't typically do this bare handed, but rather use instruments to reposition the deviated nasal structure without making any incisions.

You may have a deviated septum as well, which would lead to nasal obstruction. Sometimes this will improve with resetting the nose, but a septoplasty may ultimately be needed to fully improve your breathing.
