Otc safe: Most over the counter medications are safe and will not affect your birth control. Some antibiotics and other prescription medication can affect efficacy so you should ask the prescribing doctor at the time.

No interaction: No-it's really the antibiotics that are the problem with birth control pills, because antibiotics affect the 'gut recycling' of the medication. What that means, is the levels of birth control pills can be lower than normal when on antibiotics. Pain meds are not known for that kind of effect. Should not lower it: Taking the usual doses of any pain medication, such as Tylenol #3, should not change the effectiveness of a woman's birth control pills. Over-the-counter pain medications such as Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, or Excedrin also don't alter the effectiveness of birth control pills.

Ok to take: There are no drug interactions with common combination cold and sinus over the counter medications, such as Advil (ibuprofen) Cold and Sinus which contains Ibuprofen. You can also take Acetominophen.
