With exposure: It is strongly advised that you use any products with tretinoin at night and wear sun block during the day.  This medicine causes sensitivty to the sun and could cause some skin darkening/ spots.  If you have dark to deep pigmentation and some acne marks already, the combo of sun and treinoin can cause more darkening of the areas.  Wear your sun block and use other sources of protection.

Spots off: In combination with a skin lightener such as Hydroquinone you can gradually lighten using tretinoin (Retin A) all over face, and spot treat spots, to just lighten spots or treat all over. Avoid additional sun exposure.  Adding Intense Pulse Light Treatments to the above regimen will greatly accelerate your results.

hello . i want to use tretinoin cream 0.05% at night. also, now i use tranexamic acid day and night for my skin dark spots. can i use these two drugs together and is it safe?

: There is no interaction between those 2 main ingredients but I would prefer not using both at the same time, better to apply at least 2 hours apart, e.g. tranexamic acid before 8 and tretinoin before bedtime. Good luck.

Too much Retin A (tretinoin)?: One of the symptoms of over use of Retin A (tretinoin) is dryness and flaking and a "wind burn" feeling. You might try a milder strength of Retin A (tretinoin) (0.025%, 0.05% and 0.1% are the three available strengths) or mix the strength you have with lotion before applying it or apply it every other night instead of every night. You may find that certain areas of your face are less dry and tolerate more Retin A (tretinoin).

Retin A (tretinoin): Is mainly prescribed for acne, not sure if it can be used for dark spots, ? off-label indication, in theory it helps skin rejuvenation, but exact mechanism of action isn't well known. Please consult a dermatologist, 2nd or even 3rd opinion is your right, good luck

ive applied otc diferin .1% for past couple months. im a 34 y/o male. want to improve my skin from sun spots/fine lines (i use sunscreen now daily). want to ask for altreno when i go to my derm. is .05% altreno (tretinoin) too strong to start on?

: No, that would be fine. however, you might save some money, should your ins not cover Altreno, by getting Tretinoin 0.05% 0r 0.1% depending on your preference for a stronger dose. Be sure to apply whichever top med you use over the entire face as per your dermatologist at bedtime.

See below: Not unusual to have either residual hypo- or hyperpigmenation of the penis (shaft or glans) after treatment or resolution of any type of infection, inflammation, or irritation. Such pigmentation tends to return toward normal with time (months to years). Trying to normalize these areas with various topicals sometimes delay rather than enhances the process. Recommend see a dermatologist if concerned

Excessive dryness: Applying an oil free hypoallergenic moisturizer after each cleansing with warm water and a gentle pH balanced cleanser can help prevent excessive dryness when using facial medications.  Cetaphil and Ceravue are two examples.

WHY: WHY would anyone use RetinA there? Just stop using it there. It will heal quickly. Any lubricant will help. Vaseline, Aquaphor, Aveeno, (oatmeal) Eucerin, etc.

Yes: It is an old product that has been used for diaper rash in infants as well without problems.
