i have a pea sized hard lump by a submandibular gland that has been there for years. no pain or symptoms. never grows. blood work is normal. worried?

Lump near gland: This could be an irregularity of the gland itself, a small lymph node,  a skin cyst, or other abnormality. Ideally, you should be examined by MD and possibly have ultrasound or CT imaging if indicted.

i feel large lumps on both sides of my neck, under my jaw. i'd say they are about an inch or so wide. could those be my submandibular salivary glands? they don't really move. they are not hard, but not squishy either. they don't feel like lymphnodes?

: It could be Swollen and infected Submandibular glands , a course of Antibiotics is the first thing I would do, have a Dentist see  you , if nit resolved need to have Biopsy since still Cancer or Lymphoma is a possibility until ruled out .

i have sjogrens syndrome and have had to have both submandibular salivary glands removed and now on both sides of my neck below the jaw the lymph nodes are very hard and have not changed for almost a year do i need to be concerned?

maybe not lymph?: Are you certain that what you feel are lymph nodes? Perhaps it could be calcified scar tissue that healed like that after after your surgery?  Have they been intermittently hard or constantly? If constant, it's possible they are clogged and may have to be opened.

About walnut size: They are just underneath your lower jaw, towards the back and they are about the size of walnuts.  They do not hurt when you touch them, if they are healthy.  There are also lymph nodes in the area that you would not commonly feel unless there was an infection.

can you swell the submandibular glands by constantly feeling for them?

It's possible: If you are constantly rubbing or manipulating your glands or lymph nodes, you can definitely irritate them. This irritation leads to inflammation, and swelling which will lead to painful glands or nodes. If you notice yourself constantly feeling your neck, try to think of an activity to keep your hands busy, or go for a walk. No need to be concerned. Hang in there!!

Normally can't feel: The submandibular gland is right under your mandible (lower jaw) and usually cannot be felt separately unless it is diseased.
