Diarrhea: Loose stools are seldom the result of inadequate fiber. If these persist go and get evaluated.  You also might just try a cup of Yogurt three times a day for a week or so.

Supplements?: Are you talking about fiber supplements? It is common for fiber supplements to cause some cramping and loose stools when first starting on them. Why are you taking the fiber? It may just mean that you need to get your fiber from fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains.

Stools: The character and consistency of stools may change with alterations in dietary intake which change the colonic bacterial flora, but as long as this does not change the frequency of stooling, probably will resolve spontaneously if actually due to your changes in diet. On the other hand, the loose stools are more likely related to the virus producing your cold. If it keeps up, see a doctor.

could i have ibs? i suffered from constipation and took a fiber supplement but stopped when i kept getting runny stools. i had normal stools for two days and now i have a loose stools again with some normal stools. one of the loose movements had foam?

Irritable Bowel: Yes it is quite possible. Would recommend regular exercise, adequate water intake, minimize caffeine and alcohol. Diet rich in fibers. Breathing exercises and destressing also helps. If no help please consult a gastroenterologist for further assessment.

Don't panic: When you had diarrhea, you emptied your bowel. There is normally a transit time for the residual of your food to be excreted. You are re-establishing your transit time. Thus it's normal to have a few days with no movement after bowel emptying. You're doing the right things: plenty of fiber and good hydration by drinking water. Keep doing that &amp; nature will take it course.

Too much MOM: You may have taken too much MOM which contains Magnesium.  Too much Magnesium can cause diarrhea.  Too much fiber without lots of water can slow down your stool transport.  Try to take Magnesium citrate 500mg every night.  Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily with a fiber supplement.  Aloe vera juice also helps.

Constipation: Senokot (senna) can be taken every day to treat constipation in a safe way.  aside from being irritating, Fleet's enemas should be avoided.  increase water intake and amount of fiber in your diet to decrease constipation.  if daily Senokot (senna) does not help, an appointment should be made with primary physician or GI specialist

Episode of infection: May be getting diverticulitis , or infection of diverticula, see you doctor for examination and treatment.

It can: certainly CONTRIBUTE to constipation however the large bowel is perfectly capable of REABSORBING the WATER from the soluble (dissolved) FIBER THUS.....stool!

Many possibilities: One of the more common would be giardiasis, but the best thing to do is to see a GI doctor or infectious diseases expert, and have stools examined by a variety of tests.  You may ultimately require endoscopy, but first simple things.  Good luck.
