See below : I am not really sure what you mean by alcohol reducing metabolism.  It clearly reduces intestinal motion and function in certain parts of the brain.  Its overall effect on metabolic rate is not much.  Marijuana also reduces function in certain areas of the brain but has little impact on metabolic rate.

No- total of 4 weeks: If the NuvaRing is left in for a total of 4 weeks or less the risk of pregnancy is still low. Remove the ring/ insert a new ring after a 7 days ring-free period. If the ring had been left in for &gt; 4 weeks the risk of pregnancy increases, do a pregnancy test to make sure you are not pregnant.Use a back up birth control like condoms till the new ring has been in place for 7 days in a row. Take care.

Moral judgment: Bad is a moral judgment and i refrain from those.  Can it ruin your life is fact and the answer to that is yes.  There is no safe way to use a street drug.  You are always at risk of side-effects, arrest, damage to your brain, depression, anxiety, decreased motivation with cannabis use.  Marijuana of this era is about 20 times more potent than it was in the 60's and with it comes significant risk.
