In advanced forms of dry macular degeneration there can be scarring as well.

Their : Their are different types of macular degeneration.  The most aggressive kind, wet macular degeneration, can present with sudden changes in vision.  The "slow" variety or dry macular degeneration can take many years to progress.

No: Trauma would cause damage or scarring to the macula. Macular degeneration is a progressive degeneration of the macula resulting from age and genetics.

No: It is not true, however, sitting for long periods of time is not good for your health.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

Laser : Laser treatments to the eye may cause the vitreous jelly in the eye to move. The movement of the vitreous jelly may pull on the retina to cause flashing lights.

If the flashing lights increase in frequency or intensity, and if you see new floaters, you should return to your ophthalmologist for an examination.
