Robitussin DM (guaifenesin and dextromethorphan): Cough ; congestion does not contain alcohol. If you check different Robitussin (guaifenesin) products - look on the bottom of the front of the package ; it will state is alcohol free. Some of their products may contain alcohol.

Alcohol : Alcohol can worsen some of the side effects seen with promethazine.  Both alcohol and Promethazine are considered central nervous system depressants.  The two together can not only cause psychomotor impairment (slowing of thought and movement) but can also cause a dystonic reaction which is a neurological movement disorder characterized by muscle twitching or uncontrollable movements.  Because of these reactions, alcohol should be avoided while taking promethazine.

Yes don't overdo it: You may have alcohol - however, alcohol in excess is not good for you and in the long run may have deleterious effects on many organ systems in your body. Take care and don't overdo it - and don't drink on an empty stomach.

NyQuil and some: Robitussins (guaifenesin) contain alcohol, so you are starting off with alcohol in your system.  This will mean that you will get more "drunk" faster.  Not a good idea.

i took mucinex (guaifenesin) dm 1 hour ago. i have anxiety attacks and i find two shots stops them. can i take the alcohol without causing too much damage to my bod?

I'm: Alcohol will relieve anxiety in the short-term. However it is likely to make your anxiety condition worse in the long-term. I suggest you see your family doctor to discuss treatments for your anxiety. These can take many forms, including benzodiazepines antidepressants and counseling. Newer antidepressants are very effective for many people in relieving anxiety symptoms. Hope this helps.

Drinking when ill: You know the warnings on these products are there for a reason. If you are coughing, congested, and ill, why would you drink alcohol? Why would you take in a product to make you more dehydrated to make it harder to clear your mucous and get better?

ive been taking mucinex dm (dextromethorphan) for coughing/congestion. im finally feeling a lot better & will not be taking anymore mucinex dm after the dose i took earlier today (12/25 @ 2 pm). can i drink alcohol 2 days after taking mucinex dm?

: A small amount may be fine. Avoid alcohol use while ill. Watch for signs of shortness of breath and fever.

: Recent randomized trials have not supported any decrease in morbidity or mortality by primary prevention of major cardiovascular events in diabetes. However guidelines suggest aspirin low dose 70-100 mg daily may benefit . Hope it helps.

Too often, too long: Mucinex DM is to be taken twice a day for only few days during peak symptoms.if you still experience cough and respiratory symptoms after 1 month it’s time to let your prescriber know.

: It should be ok. I found no interactions between the 2 medications since there is no stimulant or blood pressure or heart rate 
raising  medication in mucinexDM. Your pharmacist can validate this advice.
