why does pneumonia cause fever?

Chemicals: Infections cause the release of chemicals ( interleukins) from white cells.  These chemicals are extremely potent and mediate a variety of host responses to infection including raising your temperature. Your body seems to fight a bit better at warmer temps and some bacteria don't do as well.

: no fever does not cause pneumonia, fever is the bodies response to an infection. The fever can be caused by pneumonia among many other infections . No fever does not make the pneumonia worse, the fever is actually trying to fight the pneumonia

2 year old: Hopefully this baby is being seen by a pediatrician or your family doctor. If not sure what is going on take them back and let them be seen again. Always better safe than sorry. Good luck.

Unlikely: If he had one seizure each time he was ill and has been well and seizure free between illnesses he likely does not have epilepsy but rather febrile seizures.  Characteristics include short duration of seizure associated with fever(less than 15 minutes), short period of post seizure confusion, Normal development, growth and overall health, no non febrile seizures.

Infection...: You have infection in your respiratory tract....most probably in lungs .Need antibiotic and expectorant....Chest Xray. Blood count. Pneumonia shot only protects you from only one variety of bacteria...there are so many going around.

Many issues: In deference to urban myth, fever does not cause developmental delays. Fever is a normal body response & those with good immune systems use it as needed.Aspiration pneumonia could have caused periods of decreased oxygen levels that starved the brain & some viral infections target brain cells causing injury.In about 1/2 the cases we never discover the cause after thorough evaluations.

: There are some basics we have seen. Peak symptoms are often present by day 8 but can come sooner or later. Taste/smell when lost may return quickly or take months. Worrying will not change how this evolves but getting needed rest an proper nutrition supports a good outcome.
