Yes: Sleeping with an open mouth allows your mouth and throat lining to dry out -- possibly getting sore.  However, you also might be mouth breathing from congestion due to an oncoming URI which brings sore throat with it -- or allergies which might do the same.

Sore throat: If yo sleep wiht your mouth open it could dry up you mucosa in the mouth and predispose you to infection but a lso may cause your throat to feel dry and sore. If you have nay pus over your tonsils or redness in your throat call yor doctor and be seen. You could try salt water gargles to see if it helps.

Reflux: A sore throat can be the result of acid reflux. An earache form eustachian tube dysfunction (the tube from the ear to nose) as a result of reflux is more common in children. Is should also be understood that more commonly sore throats and/or earaches are not related to reflux at all.

It is extremely rare for a person to go to bed with a sore throat and end up choking to death in his sleep. A large ruptured throat abscess, great swelling in the voice box area, or an infection of the epiglottis are some things that might choke a person to death.

See a doctor.: If the cough is productive and for 10 days it should be checked out to rule out pneumonia or bacterial infection. Either will need to be treated. Allergies with post nasal drip, asthma , and stress also need to be ruled out or treated .
