Accepted Answer

No: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your lab findings are not consistent with pernicious anemia. You may be iron deficient but that in a male needs to be investigated to rule out occult bleeding. Please consult your doctor.

Yes: Probably not that unusual but not normal.  If your iron keeps dropping, that would indicate you are losing it somewhere, meaning bleeding.  So a source of blood loss should be investigated.  

Also, taking vitamin c with the iron supplement and taking the iron on an empty stomach helps it get absorbed better.  If your just can't build up with oral iron, you might need to get the iron intravenously.

Not the best answer: I saw the big study in "pediatrics" which only indicated that adhd kids are more likely to be iron deficient; i figured this meant kids carrying the diagnosis were eating less nutritious diets for whatever reason and this wasn't the cause. The smaller recent study just showed fixing true iron deficiency improves behavior -- no surprise. Junior deserves specialist management rather than "pop" rx.

Dark : Dark circles under the eyes have several possible causes. In some cases it is due to the deposition of hemoglobin by-products in the skin resulting from chronic nasal congestion.

In other cases, the dark circles is actually due to shadowing in the area that results from facial volume loss. This can be treated with improving the volume loss. This can be done with an in- office filler injection or facial fat grafting (fat transfer).

Another common cause is genetics. Some people simply have more pigmentation in their lower eyelid skin. This is very difficult to change.

Dilated capillaries: Dark circles under eyes can be due to lack of sleep, allergies and genetics. They are caused by dilated capillaries under the skin that reflect darker coloration. Treatment includes adequate sleep, cold packs to constrict blood vessels, moisturizers containing  caffeine, vitamin E, aloe, hyaluronic acid, and/or retinol. A Dr can prescribe laser therapy, chemical peels &amp; topical skin lightener.

Dark circles: Under the eyes are difficult to eradicate completely.  They're usually associated with eye fatigue or aging changes of the lids.  There are some creams and lasers which sometimes help but not consistently.  Discuss this with an ophthalmologist or dermatologist.  These are often normal aging lid changes and there is nothing to worry about with them.
