can citalopram cause me to feel restless/edgy?  i've been on 20 mg for 10 days after being on 10 mg for 3 weeks previously. would ativan (lorazepam) help?

Yes and no: It's one thing to give patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy symptomatic treatments for weight loss, headaches, nausea and vomiting. Cancer treatments are toxic. That's why they work. It's quite another to treat side effects of 1 psychoactive drug with another psychoactive drug. If at all possible, find a more tolerable antidepressant instead.

: Call your MD and explain your situation . You should be seen ASAP. If the meds are causing then stop. But if you cant see an MD right away go to ER

SSRI can cause RLS: Ssri can cause RLS symptoms sometimes, the solution either to treating the symptoms with Dopamine agonist like Mirapex and Requip (ropinirole) or change the citalopram to different antidepressant if possible.
Also it is important to do routine work up for restless leg syndrome including cbc, renal and ferritin level.

Possibly: Restlessness can refer to different experiences and  can have many causes. One possibility is a state of anxiety or depression.  But another possibility is that it is actually "akathisia," a certain kind of reslessness that can be a side effect of aripiprazole (Abilify). It can be hard to tell if this is the case, but your best bet would be to consult the prescribing doctor.

Yes: While very few of my patients experience this degree of side effects from that low a dose of an antidepressant, yes, it may be the medication.  Talk to your treating physician, and discuss weaning of the celexa (citalopram) and switching to a different medication.

Celexa (citalopram): Celexa (citalopram) is used to treating ocd, but if you mean its causing racing thoughts and agitation then please rule out bipolar etc.

A couple of ideas.: 1. Try taking it with food.  2. Try taking it in a split dose.  3. Try taking it at bedtime (so that you will be asleep). 4. Try a course of probiotics.  Discuss these thoughts with your doctor. 5. Take ginger until you are tolerating it better. Take care.

Withdrawal effects: Depending on the dose of Celexa (citalopram) you've been taking, if you suddenly stop you may experience "discontinuation syndrome, " basically withdrawal side-effects.  These can be mild "flu" type symptoms, up to more severe "brain shocks" and other sensations.  It's not dangerous or life-threatening, but it can be pretty uncomfortable.  Talk to your doctor.
