Canesten combi is a combination of two medications; Clotrimazole to treat  Fungal or Yeast skin infection like Athlete's Foot &amp; Hydrocortisone for skin Inflammation of various causes. But, It is not indicated for Genital Herpes nor for other viral infections like Chickenpox, shingles,  &amp; cold sores. No.

: In general, it's best to keep herpes lesions dry to speed healing, but it probably doesn't make much difference. Stop the Canesten if your herpes seems to be healing more slowly than normal.  won't have any effect on the herpes. Or ask your doctor for a prescription for fluconazole (Diflucan), a single pill by mouth that is equally effective against yeast as the vaginal treatments.

See doctor: Was the diagnosis of inluenza confirmed or just suspected?  And what herpes testing was done? Herpes is far and away the most common cause of new genital ulcers, especially with flu-like symptoms (fever, headache, muscle aching, etc). I'm still suspicious you had herpes and would recommend an HSV blood test, plus a follow-up blood test in a few weeks to see if it becomes positive.

Probably not yeast: Yeast infections are uncommon in the male genital tract. This symptoms makes me concerned about an STD, if you are at risk (new or unsafe partner, etc); or about a non-STD urinary tract infection. If you are under a doctor's care, check back with him or her. If not, i.e. treating yourself with Canestin, stop immediately and see a doctor. Your nearest NHS GUM clinic would be an excellent choice.

Treat both areas: Candida rarely infects only the vulva and is often found in the vagina as well. Treat both areas after re-testing.

Recurrent yeast inf.: A pregnancy recurring yeast infection  needs to be re-diagnosed by your prenatal OB MD who can also run a test to rule out gestational  Diabetes  which can cause recurrent yeast infections. If the infection is  re-confirmed,  then there are other medications that can be utilized for Rx.

Need skin exam: These spots could be lichen plans, psoriasis, Reiter's syndrome.
Complete skin, nail and oral exam are needed to differentiate.
History of arthritis or recent pain on urination are pertinent, as are blood tests for std
