Lipids: The lowering of the LDL requires continuing attention. The chances are it would go up if you lower your dose. It isn't however impossible that a lower dose might maintain it, so discuss it with your doc.

Changes in meds: Should be done only under the care of your prescriber as goals and change in meds may result in side effects and losing beneficial effects of previous meds. Statins in general can be discontinued abruptly with no known immediate undesired effects.

Lowers cholesterol: Lipitor (atorvastatin) is an excellent drug for lowering cholesterol. It also reduces the number of heart attacks and strokes by about 40% if people stay on it for a few years. Side effects are rare and can include minor abnormalities in liver tests that normally resolve on their own. In addition, it can cause muscle inflammation in 1 in every 100, 000 patients. Generally, the benefits far outweigh the risks.

Possible explanation: Perhaps the perceived side effect from the lower dose was not related to the medicine and resolved as per it's natural course which simply coincided with increase in the dose of the medicine.   Or perhaps the body adapted well thus overcoming the side effect which simply coincided with increase in the dose of the medicine.

PSA: Although PSA is a sensitive indicator for prostate cancer, the prostate exam findings (size/nodules),  rate of rise of the PSA, and %free PSA are other important considerations.  You probably have a smaller prostate in my experience with those #'s, but not unusual for your younger age either.  Keep doing the prostate checks!

Could be: But i doubt it.  Given the increasing number of musculoskeletal symptoms associated with the statins it would be prudent to hold your med for a few weeks and re evaluate.  No one ever died or suffered from lack of a statin for a few weeks.  Please discuss with your doc before doing this.
