should i use plan b? i was on a 3 day course of bactrim and had sex and the condom broke. i am on ortho tri cyclen lo for 7 years.  i am concerned that the bactrim may have effected my bc pill. should i take  plan b?

Plan B can work in one of three ways depending on where you are in your cycle. It can prevent or delay ovulation, can interfere with the fertilization of the egg or may prevent implantation by altering the lining of the uterus. If you take Plan B One-Step within 24 hours, it is about 95% effective.

Maybe not: If you are certain that with the "protected" part everything was fine, the plan B will only mess with your cycle. If you know when you are supposed to come on your period, count 14 days back - that is when you would have ovulated. If you did ovulate around the encounter you are referring to, then take plan B.

It can reduce chance of pregnancy by up to 95% if used within 24 hours. It continues to reduce the risk of pregnancy up to 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex, but is less effective as time passes.
